Multi-function SMS Server Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Multi-function SMS Server?
Multi-function SMS Server is a software product from Spasi.com that makes information
available to mobile phones via SMS. Multi-function SMS Server enables two-way
SMS communications, that is, from the mobile users to the system and vice versa.
When a mobile user sends an SMS to the system, for example, you can set up your
Multi-function SMS Server to respond back with the requested information. And
it doesn't stop there. The user can further respond to the reply to get further
information.
Multi-function SMS Server also enables you to push SMS to your customers, which
can be newsletters, product promotions, and other kinds of announcements.
2. What do I need to use Multi-function SMS Server?
To use Multi-function SMS Server, you need a computer, a GSM modem
that supports SMS, and an active GSM subscription with the SMS feature enabled.
You will then install Multi-function SMS Server on your computer. The product
is very easy to install and simple to use. You will be surprised at how it immediately
enables you to communicate and publish information on SMS.
3. Do I subscribe for the SMS service to Spasi.com?
No, you don't. You purchase the Multi-function SMS Server from us,
install it on your server, and you're set.
4. Do I have to work together or partner with a wireless operator to
use Multi-function SMS Server?
No, you don't. You only need to subscribe to a GSM service as a regular
subscriber. You will put the SIM card into the modem, connect it to the computer
on which you install Multi-function SMS Server, and the system is ready.
5. The maximum length of an SMS is 160. Can Multi-function SMS Server
send messages longer than 160 characters?
Yes, it can. Multi-function SMS Server supports message concatenation
whereby longer-than-160 messages are split into multiple messages and sent sequentially.
The user who receives the messages will see one long message, just as the originator
intended it to be. This feature depends on the phone model. Latest models, like
Siemens S45, Sony Ericsson R600 support long messages. Earlier models will display
the messages separately, i.e. not one long message.
6. How much do I have to pay per SMS sent?
It depends on your subscription. Please check with your cellular operator.
If they charge you 3 cents per SMS, that is how much you will pay to send an
SMS from the Multi-function SMS Server. There is no extra cost on top of what
you get from your operator.
7. I have an order fulfillment system and I'd like my customers to
be able to check the status of their orders from their mobile phones. How can
I do that with Multi-function SMS Server?
Multi-function SMS Server Enterprise Edition comes with integration
tools that allow you to connect your existing business applications with Multi-function
SMS Server. If your order fulfillment system is web-based, you can easily use
the HTTP option to redirect Multi-function SMS Server to your application. More
on this will be made available with the release of the Enterprise Edition.
8. When will Multi-function SMS Server be available?
Multi-function SMS Server Standard Edition is available now. The Enterprise
Edition will be available approximately at the end of Q3 2002.
9. Which GSM modems does Multi-function SMS Server support?
All GSM phones that support the extended GSM 07.05 and GSM 07.07 command
set should work with Multi-function SMS Server. The following phones have been
tested with Multi-function SMS Server: Siemens TC35, Siemens S45, Siemens C45,
Nokia 5110, Nokia 6110. We are testing more phones and will update the list.
Note that this question refers to the GSM modems/phones connected and installed
on the Multi-function SMS Server, not the phones that mobile users can use to
send and receive messages from Multi-function SMS Server. The latter are all
phones that can send and receive SMS, which today basically means all phones
available in the market.
